Yup, I cannot imagine either the Democrats or Republicans really backing off of this. Only a Third Party that is focused on the issue could do so, and the chances of that are pretty zilch. But I cannot imagine any government that would refrain from using such capacity - good policing and all that. Orwell knew what he was about.
