It makes strange bedfellows, but I'd say there's still a fair bit of partisanship in people's views on it.
People who defend Obama, for example, usually come from the "my president, right or wrong,,as long as he's a democrat" left and the "security over freedom" right. At least one of those groups is consistent through the ages.
Which is why the new outrage amuses me. Who in their right mind thinks Obama was the -first- to do this? The laws allowing it passed during Bush's watch. Some of us said then that this was an issue, and was wrong, but got told Don't like it? Leave!
