Progressive!

"If he was so concerned with human life, why didn't he stand on the floor and rant for days when Bush invaded Iraq. Crickets then, STFU now."

200,000+ dead Iraqis, how many drone victims do you expect to come from an appointment to the CIA?

[identity profile] fizzyland.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
See, you keeping saying that word progressive. I don't think it means what you think it does.

[identity profile] fizzyland.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was excited when I first learned the name of logical fallacies too!

"You gays are all the same, always molesting children!"

"But most people who molest children identify as heterosexual."

"NOO TRUUE SSCOTTSMANN!!!"

[identity profile] fizzyland.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
See, if either Obama or I were progressives, that could apply but his voting record and my murderous impulses pretty much put that to rest.

"You are a doo-doo head!"

"But my head is not made of doo-doo."

"NO TRUE SCOTSMANN!!!"

Trog, you might find that a lot of prgoressives are actually more appalled at Obama's continuation of Bush's policies than your monogoloid lolbertarianism can really understand.

If you want libertarianism to succeed, you might want to quit pounding the same nail over and over again. Cf. John Tchoe. He's just Tickful on hate over the drone program. He pretty much thinks that's all the federal government does now.

Y'all are smarter than that.

[identity profile] american-geist.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I've just figured it out...You are Chang from Community!

[identity profile] american-geist.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I do!!

By the way I don't disagree with you, I think progressives should be much more agressive and outspoken on issues of civil liberties, but your conflation of progressives and centrist democrats doesn't do your cause any favors.

[identity profile] johnny9fingers.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Some centrists have a problem with the lack of due process involved in many of Obama's "war" policies: whether they are inherited or not.

[identity profile] american-geist.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that's so, but I think the distinction is important because liberals really aren't in power, the centrists are. They are a member of the democrat's coalition, but not the ruling or dominant ideology, clearly.

i might disagree with him (i dont, on this issual achuly) and i might find him to be someone i find personaly unplessent, and i agree he ought to have filibustered, you know, the war in iraq, for example

however, this is a good cause. so kudos. and bugger the people who seem to want him dead (i want him to lose his seat, but death is a fairly extream way to go about that)

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
The joke is that he wasn't in office when the War on Iraq was approved.

[identity profile] red-pill.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
ahhhhh. sorry XD. i feel fairly stupid now.

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
No worries. Standard MP turnover

[identity profile] cinnamontoast.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that it matters what his father did, but Ron Paul opposed the Iraq war and spoke out against it. Loudly. It sort of extends the joke a little bit.

Oh look, some partisan blow-hards wrote some ugly comments.

Wake me when something of substance happens.

Or a cartoon is posted.

I actually commend him for taking a stand on this issue. This progressive is appalled at the idea that drones could be used to kill a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil.

However, given that this man believes that life begins at conception, that climate change is a construct to end capitalism, that the federal government cannot limit second amendment rights, that social security should be privatized, and last but not least that not only should there be no path to citizenship for illegal immigrants but that the children of illegal immigrants born in the US should also not be granted citizenship, he a grade-A douche-canoe.

[identity profile] dwer.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Rand Paul is no paragon of civil rights. The comments calling for harming him are uncalled for, the comments suggesting he should have spoken against the Iraq War while in the Senate are, well, dumb. Most of the rest of them aren't well written, but are fairly accurate.

[identity profile] dexeron.livejournal.com 2013-03-07 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He's right on this issue. I liked his filibuster. He's right to shine more light on an issue more people should be outraged about.

It doesn't change the fact that he's wrong about pretty much everything else, and his other policies make his ranting about individual liberty and the Constitution seem inconsistent at best.
