Columbus Day

( two more... )
Just thought I'd post these, as I just got into a pointed discussion on this subject with some co-workers this morning. They thought changing Columbus Day to Indiginous People's day was just stupid. I told them I had once thought so too - until a friend of mine got online & showed me translations of two letters from Columbus to his business partners back in Spain. The first one (bragging about how much he and his men liked spending their free time taking natives out on snipe hunts, a.k.a. "now we're out here, YOU'RE the snipe - start running and give us a good chase before we shoot you in the back!") was jaw-dropping, but the second one made me truly hate the guy forever. He wrote about how easy it was to beat down the natives and take whatever they wanted, and he chortled about how many bucketloads of moolah they were going to make by the simple task of ripping GIRLS AS YOUNG AS 8 OR 9 YEARS OLD away from their families and sending them back to Spain to SELL AS SLAVE PROTITUTES. Hundreds, hopefully thousands of them if we can get enough ships! Oh, the bucketloads of money to be made, and so very easily!!
It was then that I decided that an eternity in the hottest firepits of hell was still too good a fate for Christopher Columbus, forced-child prostitute traffiker.
