It's funny because real libertarians think Madison (and Hamilton, et. al.) was a tyrannical Statist warmonger who masterminded a coup d'etat by arguing for the Constitution instead of the Articles of Confederation.

It's a little early for "No True Scotsman," isn't it?
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] sable-twilight.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
which is sort of sad...

[identity profile] kgbman.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No true "No True Scotsman" would be used in a case like this where the joke actually understates the nuttiness of its target.

[identity profile] new-wave-witch.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"real libertarians"

^ahem.

[identity profile] xforge.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeffy's not a libertarian, he's a megalomaniac nutball.

[identity profile] blueduck37.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeff thinks Sarah Palin is a libertarian. Holy cow!

[identity profile] blueduck37.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you do (http://community.livejournal.com/politicartoons/1664866.html?thread=36103778#t36103778).

[identity profile] mylaptopisevil.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh ha ha ha ha.

A day old and he's already rewrote what he said.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I stand by my comment - she's the most libertarian candidate we're likely to see. That does not make her a libertarian.

[identity profile] mylaptopisevil.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll recant that [livejournal.com profile] blueduck37 is Brad Pitt, then.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
If I have to recant a joke, clearly things have devolved further than I thought.

[identity profile] mylaptopisevil.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you're agreeing that you were incorrect to compare Palin to Libertarianism as you were to compare [livejournal.com profile] blueduck37 to Brad Pitt (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] blueduck37! I am sure you are still a very lovely person).

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no. I still contend that Palin is the closest we'll see.

[identity profile] blueduck37.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Because, you know, Ron Paul totally didn't run for President in last year's primary.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
He also wasn't a viable candidate.

[identity profile] blueduck37.livejournal.com 2009-10-29 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If every conservative/Republican in America who claims to be a libertarian had voted for him, he would have been (and, btw, he did kick the ass of 9/11 masturbator Rudy G, who was at point considered the nomination frontrunner).

Your logic is akin to that of Max Baucus saying he can't vote for a public option because it doesn't have enough votes to pass. But it doesn't have enough votes to pass because Max Baucus won't vote for it. And Max Baucus won't vote for it, because etc etc.

Best case scenario per Gallup data is that maybe 20% of the nation is libertarian. That ain't enough.

Because voting for a Senate bill is the same as a state-by-state primary system.

It's okay. I've probably got more of a Wil Wheaton look going on.

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Libertarian = Crony Capitalist.

I knew it!

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I don't. Your own reference says otherwise, silly.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Mwah.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey now.

[identity profile] verytwistedmind.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Very funny.

[identity profile] terminator44.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, debts aren't something you can just ignore on the mortal plane, even though the government would love it if it were so.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit it, I laughed.

[identity profile] phillipalden.livejournal.com 2009-10-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If there were a "fairy-tale" god and heaven, I wonder if he'd let Libertarians in.

I wouldn't.

But I love my brother's explanation of their beliefs:

"I got mine. Fuck you."

I hope this turns into a series. Next, on "If Libertarians went to Coney Island..."
