The reason for this was simple: we were Americans. Our partisan politics were shown to be trivial in the face of a greater threat.
Over the next year, we started hearing the drums of war for war's sake, and the American taliban blamed the whole thing on the gays. But I still remember giving blood the morning of the 13th.
9/12 was our finest day as Americans. And then we ruined it.
