Yes he should not have to talk to the majority of people...

You just got lobbed the easiest set-up ever.

[identity profile] chasovschik.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Obama doesn't either (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090909/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_ap_poll_health_care).

[identity profile] chasovschik.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Congressional majorities on the matter in question are quite doubtful at the moment.

Thanks for the totally irrelevant link, btw.

Reconciliation? That would be great. I wish they do just that. Really, who cares what people think?

Please note that the current Senate is not seriously considering the nuclear option like the previous Republican controlled Senate did.

[identity profile] dwer.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

WASHINGTON – Public disapproval of President Barack Obama's handling of health care has jumped to 52 percent, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll released hours before he makes his case for overhaul in a prime-time address to Congress.

They want him to step forward, take command, and push a good, solid, actually reformative plan through.

Some of them do. That's the beauty of the moment: if Obama goes for public option, he alienates conservatives, independents, and even some Democrats. If he drops public option, he alienates his base as well. It's not easy to get oneself into position like this. He is very talented politician.

if Obama goes for public option, he alienates conservatives, independents, and even some Democrats.

I think you strongly overestimate the distaste for the public option among democrats and independents. He needs the public option to keep the public.

And the republicans can go fuck themselves. They're very good at it.

[identity profile] chasovschik.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as health care reform is concerned, Democrats are much better at fucking themselves. Fabulous results.

[identity profile] dwer.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they consistently pander to the GOP. Time for that to change.

You mean the ones that voted him into office?

[identity profile] blueduck37.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The majority of Americans voted for President Obama.

The majority of Americans are represented in the House and Senate by Democrats.

The majority of Americans support health-care reform.

To be more specific, the majority (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/20/new-poll-77-percent-suppo_n_264375.html) of Americans support the public option. To be even more (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/09/the-public-option.html) specific, independents support it by a margin of 57-33.

Your side may be the loudest right now, but you are not the majority. Just sayin'.

Great links.

First link says that survey was commissioned by MoveOn, and add that "Earlier in the week, after pollsters for NBC dropped the word "choice" from their question on a public option, they found that only 43 percent of the public were in favor of "creating a public health care plan administered by the federal government that would compete directly with private health insurance companies."

Second link gives us the DailyKos poll.

This is auto-hypnosis, my friend. Not that I mind, though: the more you guys are out of touch, the better. So please don't look at more respected pollsters like Gallup (http://www.gallup.com/poll/122822/Americans-Sharply-Divided-Healthcare-Reform.aspx).

Like it changes something. Research 2000 can call itself "the Nation’s most unbiased and reliable research firm", but people will still be searching for reliable data in other places.

i.e. Gallup. For instance. But you can ignore it. Please, by all means. As I said, the more you are out of touch, the better.
