I can't speak for all the rest of the world, but (judging largely from your news-channels), the common American pronunciation is inaccurate .

grep for "Saddam" on the page. It's pronounced "Saddaahm". It's more evident from its Arabic spelling.

er...if i'm reading the pronunciation markings correctly, i think that's pronounced like Sah-dahm...is that how it should be pronounced? that's how i've been saying it anyway...i've heard people pronounce it Sah-dum though.

Ah, then you've had it right all along. :] Sorry. I hope I haven't offended you.
I assumed that you pronounced it "Sah-dum", because that's closer to Sodom, etc. That *is* the most common American pronunciation that I've heard (including from the US President)... But I shouldn't have generalized.

For what it's worth, Arabic is a foreign language for me as well. :]
