The New Republic has a nice article on what people, the kids, are trying to leave behind - the lords of Kentucky Fried Chicken and Beer and the new rich of the drug gangs: "Guatemalans Aren't Just Fleeing Gangs" by Saul Elbein

Actually, some people might regard what they are trying to leave as a libertarian paradise and a gun utopia.
