I was reading recently about a poll that asked Americans' willingness to vote for candidates for president based on certain characteristics: being gay, black, a woman, atheist, etc...

Some 60% of them said they would vote for a guy who had an affair, but only 3% or something like that said they'd vote for an atheist.

That was just funny to me because I see atheism as a quality asset - I think a religious-free leader would be the best leader.

I think you might be underestimating the force of traditions,
which are deeply settled habits of people.
