I'm really bad at this. Does this mean that Ukraine is safer,
or is it really in trouble now?

[identity profile] madam-shapo.livejournal.com 2014-05-09 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think, it means that these 2 cities are gone from Ukraine and are Russian now.

[identity profile] hardblue.livejournal.com 2014-05-09 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been following that closely.
I thought that Russia was giving in,
having recalled its troops from the
border, while calling on the E. Ukrainians
to refrain from holding their referenda.

Russia will never ever give up Ukraine, just like US never will give up Alabama. It is true that Putin suggested to cancel the referendum, but it's just a charade. he also said that they will pull the troops-not going to happen. I just don't understand what the heck these morons were thinking rebelling against Russia.

Small diff, Alabama wasn't it's own country for last few decades. I'm not so sure Ukraine is Russia's to give up.

If you not sure, don't say anything.

As a philosopher I am not sure of anything. I only make guesses, with varying levels of certainty.

I'll keep that in my mind; and now you got my high respects.

What's the translation of the words in the second one?

That's the border between the Netherlands and Belgium - through the middle of the bottle shop.

So, are you advocating for an EU-style union between Ukraine and Russia?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2014-05-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Those borders existed well prior to the EU, before the common market. They survived two world wars, the Franco-Prussian war, & etc.

Countries can share enclaves and exclaves if the motivation is there.

Took me a moment to figure out the fourth flag in the first picture, then I realized it's gotta be the EU flag, (right? other 3 are Ukraine, Russia and USSR, da?)
