Well, you know they write their reactions to the speech before they even know the content of the speech.

why can't they find someone who can give a speech without seeming like he's trying to convince a group of first-graders?

And what's with the shrugging???

[identity profile] lafinjack.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Who are we what now?

[identity profile] drivebyluna.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 03:11 am (UTC)(link)

and they applauded him 42 times in 43 minutes. Every time i watch state of the union/address to congress by any president it gives me flashbacks to the Brezhnev's adresses to Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

Personally, I like Obama, I think he's a neat guy. I also think that he's suffering from the Carter curse. Smart, nice Presidents simply don't seem to be able to be effective in the position.

Snicker. You guys come up with some of the craziest horseshit.

That wasn't me trying to say that Obama is communist or whatever... it's just the flashbacks that I get. Back in USSR there were many jokes about mandated applauds during the speeches.

[identity profile] merig00.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
it's the curse of intellectual - everything looks neat on paper but not in life.

In Soviet Russia, your hands give you the clap.

...wait a minute...

[identity profile] texas-reddmann.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
So he's elected, and they forgot to warn him that he's dealing with stupid people? Considering he was a Senator, he should have known that, right? But just in case, here's the first rule of government service they should have told him when dealing with Congress: Never get into an argument with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

i know it's a boring argument. that's why i'm mocking it.

it's not an argument... you are hopeless

[identity profile] mylaptopisevil.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's not a real argument, too.

I get what you're saying here. I think it's a hallmark of politics in general, although I think that there'd be serious repercussions for not applauding enthusiastically in your aforementioned anecdote.

Re: Joe Wilson (R- SC)

[identity profile] merig00.livejournal.com 2009-09-11 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mostly about the presenter actually reading outloud "Pause for applauds" during the speech
