That wasn't me trying to say that Obama is communist or whatever... it's just the flashbacks that I get. Back in USSR there were many jokes about mandated applauds during the speeches.

I get what you're saying here. I think it's a hallmark of politics in general, although I think that there'd be serious repercussions for not applauding enthusiastically in your aforementioned anecdote.
