You win the Internet.

Interesting lie there.

Giuliani: Working class parents, father a convicted felon.
Huckabee: Born in Hope Arkansas, father a fireman and mechanic.
Thompson: Born in Alabama, father a used car salesman, first in his family to ever attend college
Romney: Born in Detroit, son of a Mexican immigrant who worked in sugar beet fields and eventually became CEO of American motors and Governor of Michigan.

Don't you hate it when reality ruins a good meme?

I think they're referring to general white male privilege in America, not anything specific to any of the individuals.

It doesn't matter. They're using a poor image to reflect that, which is half the supplied information. Unless you're looking for irony, here... this is stupid.

General white male privilege and 65 cents will get you a can of soda.

Nice work!!

Being born in Arkansas, Alabama or Detroit negates any privilege one may experience throughout one's life, as does being raised in a working-class household.

[identity profile] bord-du-rasoir.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That being said, I agree with weswilson: the macro is not very good at all for the reasons you list.

[identity profile] dr-pepper-spray.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Giuliani: What can I say? The Mob takes care of their own.

Huckabee: He did come from humble beginnings and I believe he's a sincere, all around good guy. Then again, I never lived in Arkansas and I felt the same way about Bill Richardson until I talked to people from New Mexico.

Thompson: I feel the same way about him. I also think he could play a mean Dr. Phil even though he's a little old now. Maybe a Dr. Phil of the future?

Romney: yeah, his father (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney) wasn't exactly a César Chávez field worker. Also, by the time Mitt came alone George was fairly set.

I agree though, the meme isn't exactly fair.

My first thought was the Kennedys too. The fucked up aspect of our politics sees no party lines.

[identity profile] neonleonb.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That was one of my main reasons to not be interested in Hillary. Do we really need only two presidential families here in the US? If it was just the Bushes vs. the Clintons, that would be pretty damn depressing.

[identity profile] i.livejournal.com 2009-03-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
except the kennedys don't have a "fuck the little guy" attitude of entitlement like, for example, the bushes or the people in this macro who, while they may be from humble roots, are now rich from sucking the hemhorroids of big business and could give two shits about people who live like their parents did.

[identity profile] hallyluia.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen people who come from poor families who work their butts off to make something of themselves, and have become quite wealthy. So, a stereotype like this is meaningless to me.

[identity profile] hallyluia.livejournal.com 2009-03-02 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
.......the real fat cats are those in congress and the senate who give themselves pay raises for screwing us all up royally.

I'd like to see them roll back their salaries. Lead by example.
