I started by noting what I can only think of as category mistakes; but as the jaw dropped further I gave up.
The National Health Service has obvious flaws: bureaucracy, external contracting, and medical purchasing (both drugs and equipment). However, economies of scale play a significant part (or at least should play a significant part) in minimising the last of these problems. Staffing from abroad, from wherever (because we shouldn't notice ethnic background....or should we?) is common to many public and private healthcare systems. How many foreign doctors (non-American born) do you know of in America?
I love Fox news. When at Oxford (or so the story goes) Rupert Murdoch (an Australian) had a bust of Karl Marx in his rooms. This just proves what a brilliant humourist he's become. I used to be worried that Old Rupes was actually going to be the man who would end up running things behind the sidelines like some hugely inflated and turbo-charged Beaverbrook; but with Washington rather than Westminster in the palm of his hand. Now I think he's shot his bolt. However, I should not dismiss his talent for articulating lowest-common-denominator positions. He has, traditionally, through all his media ownership, had his finger on the pulse of the worst of our prejudices, which he has always played with the virtuosity of a Paganini. If his death were to be announced, for example, I won't believe he's dead until it's officially confirmed from three seperate sources. Even then I'd wrap the body in Garlic and crucifixes and immerse it in holy water for a few centuries before actually burying it. The prospect of Rupert rising from the grave is too hideous to contemplate.
Never mind, I'll admire his trajectory: an Antipodean comet for our times.
This reminds me of the argument that illegal immigrants are causing global warming because they come to the states and then leave their air conditioners on all day.
Learning from terrorist profiles who we should not trust: From this threat we know not to trust doctors From 7-7 we know teachers are suspect From 9-11 we know middle class and having completed some college is a warning sign From all of the events above we know some of them are foreign and some are citizens who might even live normal western lives...
Conclusion: be paranoid- terrorists are everywhere
