I gotta hand it to them...

Found this on random searches, and I'm as far away from Liberal as most go, but even I found THIS funny. The drawings are just so dang cute.

also somewhat entertaining

STEALTH EDIT!

I don't know about you, but he reminds me of a very happy looking Baron Harkonnen (...Dune...)

Which isnt the same as saying "judge him because he looks like a monkey"

I don't really think the other cartoon was saying that either. We can't act like this is a more excusable instance of picking on appearances just because there was another issue put on top of it. You can't punch someone in the face and then kick them in the groin and expect one action to cancel out the other.

[identity profile] kitsuneluke.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that; they're different issues. It's one thing to say 'Bush shits bombs and also he looks like a monkey', but it's another to say 'Bush looks like a monkey, so Democrats are better'. It's not discounting him because he's funny lookin', it's discounting him then saying he's funny lookin'. Or something.

But the cartoonist isnt picking on appearances. (I also dont know which "other cartoon" you are referring to). He is simply using that appearance and then incorporating it into a theme. I mean, Kanye West is black, is noting that he is, in fact, black and then using that in a cartoon "picking on his appearance"?

No, its not. Its acknowleding that he is black. Bush can look like a monkey sometimes. The point is the evoloution into a "not higher form of life" not " ha ha bush looks like a monkey".

Its the move from shit flinging monkey to bomb dropping monkey. As in "Look how far we have come, now we use bigger weapons!"

It could also be a commentary on the evoloution of Bushs terms in office, from meek "i wont nation build" during the first campaign to "war president" during 9/11, to percieved "evil empire" as shown by the darth vader outfit, which had the common themes of imerpialism and false republicanism (as in, ruling type, not political organization).

The outfit could also be a nod to nazi germany, which co-incedentally, Darth Vaders outfit was modeled after, but that looks like a Vader outfit to me.

You not knowing the other cartoon makes this whole argument pointless - megiloth's original comment wasn't a serious one, he was referring to this comment (http://www.livejournal.com/community/politicartoons/497076.html?thread=7364532#t7364532) in another post.

I don't have a problem with this cartoon, I had a problem with the double standard. But since you didn't know there was one, it changes things. :)

It was a bad refferal, because one was saying "we are better because we are more attractive" and the other one wasnt saying anything with regards to his looks, simply noting them.

[identity profile] stupiddumbpanda.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but the other one was so stupid and obviously playful there's not much to be upset about, aside from how stupid it is.

And you're right, it probably was a stretch.

And he does look like a monkey.
