Protesting bigotry - even violently - is not evidence of bigotry. This cartoon wishes to assume otherwise to make a cynical false equivalency, but, it just ain't so.

As an aside... Violent protestors forced Milo to cancel a privately-booked appearance. Yet the guy in the cartoon is attacking "free speech". Why the switcheroo?

Well, you're assuming that you can't be a bigot if you're standing up against bigotry. All you're doing with that supposition is declaring you're not a bigot.

However, that's not the reality. What you have is an opposition to an ideology, and those of that ideology believe they're standing up against bigotry when really they're silencing opposition. That's the problem with declaring yourself as the be-all-end-all of moral authority. And that's what the left has become.

So, the cartoon is capturing the irony.

See, here's the thing. Everyone knows what Milo stands for. He's been traveling around the country doing a one-man show for quite a while now, and his shit's freely available online. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know exactly what he's going to say when he shows up in a new town, especially given the group that invited him there. The Berkeley protest was against what Milo has already said, and against him saying that crap in their home town. Do you think that protesting itself is an attempt to "silence opposition"?

No, I'm pretty sure you're singling out the violence and condemning that. Well, you and I agree there. The people who hijacked the protest and turned it violent are misguided assholes.

But do you think those people are worthy of the label "tolerant left", and do you think they were the ones carrying "hate free zone" signs?

As far as Milo goes, all ll I know about him is he's a civic nationalist promoting western ideals unapologetically while also mocking/trolling the left. I don't really care much for him. But at least he's able to create some form of discourse -- which the left has killed by shutting down opposition.

Whether you realize it or not, Milo's character is a product of the left. Granted, it's not what the left wanted. But, nonetheless, he is a yang to their yin.

I have no idea what distinction you're making here. A protest in and of itself isn't bigotry. But, what you have here are bigots protesting and those protests are turning violent. The left have become the bigots. And they have been actively shutting down opposition. And things are escalating more and more into violence. This isn't the first incident.

So, the "tolerant left" sarcasm isn't limited to this situation. It's a mockery of people on the left constantly assuming they're a paragon of virtue and presenting themselves as such. But, the reality is they're not as opened minded as they believe themselves to be.

A lot of these lefties think they're fighting the good fight, but they're not. Maybe before they were. But not anymore. The pendulum swung too far, and they've become polarized ideologues.

This is not good for anyone.

Look deeper into Milo's "discourse" and you probably won't like what you find. He uses untrue stereotypes of minorities and LGBT folk (yes he's all gay and shit but that obviously doesn't excuse it) to make mean-spirited jokes about "tolerance" gone amok, and sell his message, which is summarized in two points:

1. The leftist whites ("cucks"), and their multi-ethnic friends, are out to exterminate whites in "race war".
2. The leftists are policing language in an attempt to silence the white people who are opposed to this "race war".

These things are not only grossly untrue, they are inflammatory. They are a deliberate twisting of American ideals into a victimization, to foment a race war. The people protesting him know what he's up to and are appalled by it.

Ask yourself why the protests of him always happen in the most ethnically diverse regions of the country. Do you think the people living there know less about race relations than people living in more homogenous areas? They are up his ass for a reason. It might be worth figuring out what that reason is.

And about violence - I've tried to make the distinction between the people holding the signs, who were peaceably gathered at UC Berkeley for hours, and the smaller group that showed up later intent on violence. If you are unwilling to make that distinction, that's a shame. Those people are all one big pile of "leftists" to you, is that it?

Well if you want to lump them together, then I think it's fair to lump the "right" in with the guy who shot up a mosque in Canada a couple weeks ago. The left ain't got nothin' on the violence perpetrated by the right. We could also walk that right back through the civil war if you like.

I think it's better to make the distinction.

I do make the distinction. I just don't think it's as important as you think.

Every side has misguided people that will act out in unfavorable ways. And it didn't begin with the violence. The ostracism tactics to silence opposition is/was part of it. Basically discourse is dead right now. Tensions are escalating, and that escalation will be followed by an increase in frequency of violence.

And, ironically, you just doubled down by turning it into a contest as to whose violence is worse. "The right is still worse."

What you're saying with that is: "We're still the paragons of virtue."

No you're not. Both sides are polarized. How we got here doesn't matter anymore. This is where we are. And tensions are escalating. So, I think things are going to get worse before they get better.

And, yes, Milo is a provocateur. There is no doubt about that. He flat out tells you that he's trolling you. And yet people are still getting triggered.

I never said the left were paragons of virtue. But if I was to be drawn into a conflict between people who endorse a race war and people who wish to prevent it, I would choose the side trying to prevent it. Race is a stupid reason for a fight.

White people didn't start the race baiting, nor are they the ones pushing anti-white sentiment. So, if you think someone like me is the one fanning the fire, then you're shooting the messenger.

Oh okay, so, the leftist white people are off the hook then? :D
