I doubt your truthfulness. I find it highly likely that you would spuriously claim to have had family who fought Nazis, just so you can try to embarrass me here. For instance, here, you could easily just post a google-searched image of this "medal of courage" you're talking about. I would have little basis for comparison, and because I don't know Russian, I wouldn't be able to assess for myself whether what you posted was, indeed, a "medal of courage" or even of Russian origin.
For what it's worth, my own family emigrated from Poland and Lithuania in the 20th century, so you're not the only one with a heritage implicated here.
What I know of Nazi techniques I know from reading the histories. I know how Hitler ascended to power and the propaganda techniques used by his lieutenants. I also know that the most prominent American figures currently espousing a white nationalist and genocidal view openly calls the American media the "Lügenpresse," which is the same term the Nazis used to refer to German media, in order to discredit them and convince Germans to trust only Nazi-approved media/propaganda.
Since I know that, I know also that supporters of this white nationalist view are not above blatantly lying about their intentions or about themselves. They absolutely would claim to have family who fought against Nazis, as a way of deflecting against being neo-Nazis themselves, even if that were completely untrue. Since you're keen of their language, I can only surmise you're likely to be keen of their techniques.
