In the US, the horse would be over there with that cat (as far as being treated like a pet, rather than food). Probably the donkey, too. Eating anything equine = BIG TABOO over here. (I don't explain these things, I just report 'em!)

but I also thought that they do make it into our pet food.
I vaguely recall, back in the 1970s, that there was some
movement afoot for people to start eating horsemeat as well,
but that it never took off.
