Who is saying the Government should pay for birth control?

[identity profile] enders-shadow.livejournal.com 2013-08-12 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I am.

But then again, I'm not an elected official and most of what I say goes unheeded in Washington.

I certainly think it should be subsidized for those who cannot afford it. Of course here it is :P The most a low income person will pay is $5.80 per month.

The problem is that leaves the upper lower class, lower middle class paying it all out of pocket. Worst place to be short of actively starving is in the class where you can't get help because you make to much, but don't make enough to survive a single bad thing happenning. When you are just Barely making it.

The most any prescription on the PBS here in Australia will cost you is 36.80 or so.

I'm not sure why more people don't understand this. Trying to stay above water is okay if nothing bad happens, but let one thing go wrong and you're completely fucked for YEARS.

I'm happy for the state paying for anything that is of the public interest. Free, easy and wide provision of birth control, especially for young persons, is definitely on that list. Free drop-in STI clinics are also on that list. Where I live, we already have both of these things, but I'm European and we're crazy like that.
