I saw this post and thought "Nah, that ad CAN'T be real..."

But it apparently is: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/11/05/playstation-vita-advert-sexist-controversial_n_2075412.html (http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/11/05/playstation-vita-advert-sexist-controversial_n_2075412.html)

Gods. I can't even...

I hear the new Samsung marketing thingee was fairly ugly as well.

Teenage boys (and men with the mind of teenage boys) are very easy to manipulate.

This ad is everything that's wrong with capitalism; dehumanising one demographic to manipulate another.

[identity profile] dexeron.livejournal.com 2013-03-25 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I remember everyone referencing it back in February, during that Playstation 4 announcement, because they had only guys presenting on stage at the presser. Kotaku talked about it some: http://kotaku.com/5985822/why-were-there-no-women-presenters-at-the-playstation-4-event

Way to keep perpetrating that "women don't really have their own existance apart from just being there for men to enjoy" paradigm, Sony.

The original ad is disgusting, but I cackled when I saw the second picture.

Vita goddammit.

It's not that bad of a handheld console, just Sony in it's infinite wisdom turning it into the next console to be steamrolled by the 3DS by not supporting it and making everything about it expensive and proprietary.

[identity profile] telemann.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
lol. That 2nd one.

[identity profile] macychick.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I was thinking- whoever came up with the ad must have been drunk or on drugs. And the rest of the advertising team must have been drunk or on drugs too; to think it was a good idea.

[identity profile] macychick.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Gross in so many ways.

Or maybe they just lack creativity...

It's the same problem Sony had with the PSP - they wanted the most powerful system without any games to play on the damn thing, or not bringing out the games that people actually wanted. I really want a Vita for P4G, but that's only one game and the rest I'd play are PSP games that I can't play on it without rebuying because they also won't bring out the passport system to the US. It doesn't help that Nintendo has basically had a lock on handheld gaming since the original Game Boy.

Oh, it's Sony. Not a surprise given that company's advertising history. Enjoy: http://money.ca.msn.com/savings-debt/gallery/worlds-most-controversial-ads?page=3

I bet the person who made this ad had a head full of contrast and thought nothing of the social implications of their message, cos it sure looks good.

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they're trying to grow their lucrative 10-15 year old male market.

[identity profile] macychick.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I think it takes a VERY vivid imagination (as in, altered by chemicals) to come up with something like that!

[identity profile] kittymink.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite like the Vita but you're right

[identity profile] the-rukh.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's definitely an underdeveloped market, right? :P

[identity profile] spamwarrior.livejournal.com 2013-03-27 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Or they knew the controversy would get them a ton of free advertising.

[identity profile] madscience.livejournal.com 2013-03-27 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
One word: Japan. Be glad it doesn't involve ten-year-olds or tentacles.

Follow-up question: is it possible to appreciate the female form (or male for that matter) without objectifying women (or men as the case may be)?
