[identity profile] jeweledvixen.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
lol. So true.

[identity profile] jandian.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, does that mean gay marriage would be allowed there? Since Rand was in support of the government not interfering with the relationship of two consenting adults.

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure there isn't a real Randian argument for ANY marriage.

[identity profile] jandian.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So they either have to choose between allowing no marriage at all or gay marriage. I assumed that the first one wouldn't be an option for any good Christian so I thought they'd go straight to the second part.

[identity profile] fierceleaf.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't teachings of mormonism and of objectivism in contradiction with each other?

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Rynd wasn't really fond of Christianity or religion.

[identity profile] squidb0i.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Much win

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
+1.

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And given the frippery of the church, I don't understand why not the 2nd option.

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Glenn kinda has hot lips in this.

[identity profile] jandian.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm aware of that. I was more thinking about Glenn Beck. He's a Mormon (at least that's what Wikipedia says)

[identity profile] jandian.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a joke. I just thought that it was funny how they want to build some sort of conservative utopia based on the works of a person who had some very unconversative views (for example about religion, family and personal freedom)

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Beck has been in favor of gay marriage for some time.

[identity profile] jandian.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, didn't know that. Thanks for the information.

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I think Ayn and Glenn would not get on well.

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure there is. Andrea Dworkin described it most vividly in her work.

[identity profile] hey-its-michael.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nice to hear. The last time I noticed him discussing anything to do with gay rights, he was comparing it to incest between brothers and sisters. It is good that even Glenn Beck is capable of evolving.

[identity profile] pacotelic.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that was just a typo on Wikipedia's part. Extra "m" in his religious affiliation,

[identity profile] yes-justice.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ayn would have to defend the church a bit more to qualify. But the whole "women shouldn't want to be president" thing qualifies.

[identity profile] anfalicious.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ayn Rand wrote a book about the joys of central planning?

[identity profile] anfalicious.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Zing!

[identity profile] anfalicious.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
In December last year he decided that the government should get out of the marriage business.

In January last year he said "I have exactly the same opinion on gay marriage that President Obama has, unless he's lying." Beck said that while he didn't believe in same-sex marriage, he did believe in civil unions for gay couples. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/06/glenn-beck-gay-marriage-president-obama_n_1189518.html)

He was also using the slippery slope argument around the same time: (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2012/01/06/beck-uses-math-equation-to-explain-argument-against-gay-marriage/)

"The equation is: one guy, one woman equals marriage. That’s the equation. One plus one — one guy, plus one woman — equals marriage. Now, let’s change the second variable. One guy — change the second variable — plus one guy — equals marriage. One woman plus one woman equals marriage. Okay, well how about we change the other variable. Two guys plus one woman equals marriage. One guy plus three women equal marriage.”

So he has not been in favour of gay marriage ever and has only been in favour of equal status for about three months.

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Beck was pretty clear about it in 2010 (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/12/glenn-beck-gay-marriage-n_n_679691.html). He's very libertarian about it.

And the slippery slope thing, by the way? It's a key reason why I support gay marriage. I want the dominoes to fall.

[identity profile] radioclashed.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
You just want to watch the world burn.

[identity profile] anfalicious.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, he's totally not saying what you think he's saying.

[identity profile] dexterx.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Love it

[identity profile] enders-shadow.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
what dominoes do you mean, exactly?

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Legal recognition (whether it's of the government getting out of the way or legitimizing) of any adult consensual relationships.

[identity profile] enders-shadow.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
what do you mean? provide examples.
the ONLY logical extension of gay marriage is polyamory. anything else is bullshit

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
What other examples do you need? A key point of supporting gay marriage for me is the normalizing of any and all adult consensual relationships.

[identity profile] enders-shadow.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
often right wingers will use slippery slope to lead to bestiality, and you know that

[identity profile] badlydrawnjeff.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, and that's understandable given the trend. It misunderstands the concept of consent and property, but it's not the craziest point of view on the matter.

[identity profile] enders-shadow.livejournal.com 2013-02-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
only for people who cant tell the diff between a pet and a child

Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

How 19th century! Next they'll be building retail, offices, and factories within walking distance so people don't need cars!
