There are, essentially, three stories you can tell. The beginning, the failure, and the ending. Using the good starwars as an example, we have "who is Luke, what is the world, what must be overcome", "Our hero is human, fails his friends, fails himself", "our hero succeeds and his story is over"
With comics we are mostly locked out of the second two options. With superman specifically there is another problem in that threats aren't interesting. (oh look its something strong and superman punches it and wins because he is stronger). Because of this comics tend to focus on the origin story.
