I never said or implied that they should. But when the aspect you're criticizing is completely unrelated to the aspect being discussed, it's nothing but a pointless ad hominem.

I don't agree. The character of someone whose opinion or work is the focus of a post is relevant.

Incorrect. The character and/or failings of the person making the opinion are always relevant.
