They aren't. They haven't been granted legal personhood.
But you knew that already. You're just faking that you didn't.

I know, we can't hold corporations responsible for oil spills, because they're not people. Corporations can't spill oil; only people! QED

Legally, that's not how it works. Absent people or employees entirely, a corporation can still hold assets and otherwise function as a legal person for the purpose of law. Real people are entirely incidental to the legal perception of a corporation. And since the legal viewpoint defines what is and is not 'real' in the USA, that is the reality.

Saying you don't think corporations should be allowed to donate money to campaigns, or what have you, is entirely separate and distinct from the "corporations aren't people" argument, which is a digression that is lost from the beginning and has no reward.

I don't see any references to campaign donations in this political cartoon.
I believe it instead refers to Romney's Corporations are people, too!" (http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/romney-corporations-are-people-too/) statement.

I do not believe it is possible that you are sincerely unaware of this. Either you have been living under a rock or you are being disingenuous and attempting to derail. Since the former, from your usual statements in [livejournal.com profile] talk_politics, is exceedingly unlikely, the latter must be determined as correct.

...I have no idea what you're saying here.
