no winking involved. when is the last time any party in israel has won a clear majority? i don't think likud ever has. most jews worldwide do not support the activities of the israeli government in palestine.
the US has nearly as large a jewish population as Israel, which has about a third of the worldwide numbers. a large percentage of Israel's own population is opposed to current policy.
